Edited 4 years agoThe main appeal of The Master Scratch Band's sole release under that name is in their very demonstration, exploring and exploiting the breakbeat/breakdance trends of the day.
It came about at the right moment to create an impact (or the illusion of it - mere few years after the big boom in the States with the hip-hop/electro scene) thus it may be considered a unique, brave experiment for Yugoslavian (mainly rock) standards; however, due to it desperately trying to sound as if coming straight out of Bronx with cheap phrasing and clumsy rap is what's killing it to bits; at best, The Master Scratch Band sound like a Rock Steady Crew/Afrika Bambaataa tribute group, audibly showing off with what they learned from their mentors, fooling around with the gear for their own amusement (some sounds are downright unbearable, beyond parody level - whoever thought including burping sounds in the mix is a cool idea ("Computer Break"), completely ruined the opportunity to make something truly exciting of it).
There are tiny surprises - like throwing bits of very early SPK into the mix (the track "M.S.B." features the intro from "Slogun" at its tail end - a Walter Ulbricht LP conspicuously appears on the sleeve, with the wax hand "scratching" it) - but the overall impression is sadly that of bandwagon jumpers. -
Break War (A1) bass player name is incorrect. Bass player name is Dragan Marinkovic, funk and jazz musician, at the time working with numerous bands including MSB.
