Words replaced with samples from elsewhere in the song:

• "I did not come to f—ah-ah—around" (instead of "funk around", but it still kinda sounds like the f-word)
• "and on the 7th day, he made music!" (instead of "me")
• "if you try to stop 'em, they'll kick that." (instead of "kick that ass")

In Tony M.'s rap, the entire 2nd half of the rap is omitted (after "You must become a prince before you're king anyway"), and in the part that remains, these lines were edited:

• "The funkier I be, the funkier I get—ooo—get—ooo" (instead of "get, oh shit")
• "When you jumped on—jumped on" (instead of "jumped on my d-i-c-k")

Even with these edits, the song was still a little too something for most mainstream pop radio stations, so a revised version without rap appeared on a nearly identical promo CD (My Name Is Prince), with the following edits:
• "I did not come to …round"
• completely omits "But on the seventh day, He made me"
• "He was tryin' to rest y'all when He heard me" (instead of the sound)
• "if you try to stop 'em, they'll kick that."

My copy came with a white rectangle sticker stating 'Promotional Copy Only Not For Resale'
