My copy is closest to Variant 2, but Disc 1 side one runout is IV not a triangle. Very faint Disc 1 side 2 but it's some sort of symbol. Dis 3 Side 1 (or "five) is II not IV. Not sure if this is a new variant, or OP didn't see theirs correctly? -

Mine has the back cover with less Notes than appears in the picture ed here.
Also the text on the labels is smaller and also on label there is less text then in the pictures.
Otherwise it's the same.
But I wonder if it's a pressing from another year... Who knows... -

Incredible sound from this. Very happy to add this to my collection, dynamic and full soundstage. Excellent bass and instrument separation, really puts you in the show. -

A hit-or-miss press from Blackened. I’ve read many other listeners report flaws on their copies. My initial copy had terrible pops on sides 3 and 6. Right during Hero of the Day, Bleeding Me, and One! Exchanged for a new copy, and not one flaw on this one. *shrugs* The sound is full, bass-y, and if you’re listening on proper equipment, you will surely hear the orchestra is perfectly balanced with the band, as needed.
*edit*. I counted my blessings too early. One, on side 6 is still a popping, skipping mess! Enter Sandman also was rough. At least Battery is flawless… -

Good, but the 1st track, 1st side is garbage, Ecstacy of Gold Intro. not the entire track just the 1st 30/40 seconds or so. Pressing on my copy is clearly defective, visible.
The rest of the LP is great.

The photo on the back cover is super blurry - I've never noticed it was this bad; are they all like this or am I crazy? -

What a year 1999 was.. I was 15 when they released this. Bought the cd right away, and now have the first pressing on vinyl.. And all these years later, I'm still blown away by the performance. Must've been amazing to see in person -

One of my favourite live albums ever. The orchestra really brings the best out of each of Metallica’s songs.
This pressing is great, quiet and as good as you can expect given the original recording which isn’t stellar but does the job. -
Edited 2 years agoAbridged (no "Of Wolf and Man," "One," or "Outlaw Torn"-- three of the best tracks on this release-- among others), and pretty damn muffled sound. For a collector, otherwise better to avoid.

Aside from the fact that my copy has disc 1 side 1 stamped slightly off center, which introduces a bit of wow, this is a high quality pressing. I haven't seen this issue widely reported so it may be a one-off. I bought this at the Virgin Record store in NYC almost 20 years ago; given that this pressing is out of print and Virgin Records no longer exists I'm probably stuck with it.
Like with allot of later Metallica vinyl pressings, the master is fairly quiet on this, but (unlike the "Ride the Lightning" 2008 remaster which was so quiet it broke the mix) this isn't a negative as long as you turn up the volume. Buy/keep this record in good shape and it'll sound very nice.
