When I was a kid I was obsessed with the instrumental version of Ghostbusters, and its extra harp & synth-laced sections, especially that incredible ending.
If I was at a Ray Parker Jr. Q&A session, I'd ask him what the story was behind those extra sections, i.e. did he intend to have them in the vocal version at some point, and / or why were they left out of it.

In some ways similar to the original US print, this first French edition, which apart from the cover shares the runouts of many European vinyls of that period, also offers a dark sound signature, where the low-medium frequencies dominate the whole experience, but it doesn't have the roundness and robustness of the American press, with poor instrument definition and a narrowed, unconvincing soundstage. We also have some distortions, precisely at the end of the sides, in particular on track A5, a well-known bête noire of this album.

Very underrated soundtrack that I've loved since the 80s. Listened to cassette when it started. felt compelled to acquire this on LP. wow! melodious

First generation tape. Sound is okay. Not much thought on the song choices when arranging for the movie / tape. Only songs worth the price of the tape was Ray and Laura.

Managed to find up a copy that miraculously appeared to have never been played, and it sounds excellent! Almost thought for a second I was listening to it via streaming because of how little noise there is in between tracks.

The pressing quality of this release is absolutely atrocious. I've gone through three different LP's, and each has sounded like garbage. Crackles and pops throughout. Each one has also had rough edges around the outside, as well as sharp flashing around the spindle hole and even the run-in. This really needs a 180g pressing, because this ain't it.

I found something similar to this on Mercari. It was made in the US and the white border surrounding "original soundtrack" is absent, etc... Apparently RCA Record Club pressed this with different cover art than what was available for general retail. I mean, obviously it's the same general concept except for the fact that the noghost logo and the tracklist are their own distinct designs on the trade edition, as well as the red along the spine where the title is, etc... I.E. r373072

This edition is slightly above average soundwise, the soundstage is not terribly wide, but the definition of the instruments is particularly striking when compared to the digital US counterpart of the same period, also too bright for my taste. Surely this press boasts quite a lot of space in of dynamicsm, but in of frequencies it's certainly less convincing and a little too focused on the mediums: so there's little air to the highs and overall the sound can feel a bit squeaking at times, but the lows are punchy and make listening very immersive. There are also some mild distortion, particulary at the A-side end, where the last song ends with a very dynamic and loud orchestral rock finale.

Definitely a release faithful to the production period, one wonders what it would be like to listen to the original master tape...
