Temple of Low Men is the second studio album by New Zealand-Australian rock band Crowded House, released by Capitol Records on 5 July 1988. The three band , Neil Finn, Nick Seymour and Paul Hester, recorded the album 1987−1988 in Melbourne and Los Angeles with Mitchell Froom as producer. Finn had written all ten tracks during the two years since their self-titled debut. Temple of Low Men peaked at number one in Australia, number two in New Zealand, number ten in Canada and number 40 on the US Billboard 200.

At the ARIA Music Awards of 1989 the group won four categories: Album of the Year and Best Group for Temple of Low Men; Best Cover Art for Seymour's work; and Song of the Year for "Better Be Home Soon".

      Crowded House's second album holds up well today, a good bit darker than their debut, with a batch of memorable songs including "Into Temptation", "When You Come" and "Sister Madly". This particular pressing is the Canadian BMG club edition, and it sounds perfectly fine, with adequate low end, perhaps a bit crisp up top, especially on "Kill Eye", but not nearly the level of sheen that afflicted so many other albums of the 80's. My copy plays nice and clean, without any noticeable surface noise.

        This recording sounds fantastic on my system. There is no audible problems with the pressing. The vinyl is very quiet, or dead quiet. The music is more involving.
        A great record to play when showing what a great record can sound like.

          Sophomore album, but don't be fooled. Deeper, darker and enriching with subsequent listening. DMM can be a bit bright in spots, but not overwhelming. I had no distortion issues at all. If you only own the first album or Woodface, this album took chances and it is a rewarding album.

            More introspective but more well-rounded than Crowded House's debut album, with some beautifully crafted songs.

            In of recording: fidelity is reasonable but the lower bass is really lacking. I think this is more an issue with the mastering than the vinyl pressing. A bit of a shame given the quality of the songs but I'm still glad to have this album in my collection.

              Burned it to a DVD, and I’m very impressed. The vocals are excellent. This was recorded digitally I think, but the mastering is excellent in my opinion. Hoping for a Woodface remaster someday.

                Brilliant album. But, this pressing is BRIGHT! Way too much high end, even distorts at times.

                  Anyone know what the packaging for this looked like? Mine came in a beat-to-hell clear clamshell case similar to the special edition of Talking Heads' 'Speaking In Tongues,' but somehow I doubt this was the original packaging.
