Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God) (2012 Remix) | 5:31 |
Notes
As heard in the London 2012 Olympic Games end ceremonies.
Despite titled '2012 Remix', this version is better described as a 'update' than a remix. No new instruments or rhythm patterns are introduced, instead the backing track is a new mix of the original 12" version (from 1985) and stays close to the original sound. More noteworthy than the mix is that the lead vocals are all new. With the new vocals and a slight remix, this 2012 version is in fact identical in approach to the 1986 version of "Wuthering Heights", which was subtitled 'New Vocal'.

Come on guys £40 for a 10"!!!! that is outrageous! no wonder Kate Bush web page only allowed one purchase per person.

I love the original version, and most of all the 12" extended mix, voice was so powerful and ionate. What is this remix for? It was absolutely not necessary... Perhaps they (they who???) wanted to make it with a less-effected voice, in fact here we can hear it without ECHO, but there is no energy left, in my opinion.
Also, ... why don't remake the music too?
That's all I can say... for me it's a not necessary record, a waste of time. If I want to listen to a new version I choose the Within Temptation one, always prefering the old Kate's 12" version. -
Edited 12 years agoIt sounds as if she is closer to the grave (so bassy).original vocals and the original lirics are better.sorry Kate no,not this time baby.

I wouldn't go as far as saying it's a rip off, but the new version is unnecessary - from a fan's point of view. I have to say it made the track sound fresh in the "live" context. I think the organizers simply wanted something new, instead of just using the original version. Although Kate didn't appear in person, it was still one of the classier acts in the show. But of course with Spice Girls, Take That and a plethora of old hags in the line up, the competition wasn't very hard. Obviously Kate's voice is different, but the original was recorded closer to 30 years ago. Her voice is still fine, unlike that of Annie Lennox (listen to her Christmas Cornucopia), who wisely chose to perform to a prerecorded vocal... Unlike Ms. Sandé who was constantly flat (chills).
It remains to be seen whether the new version was made for the Olympics or if the Olympics came just in time for the forthcoming KB compilation, which is rumoured to be released later this year... ;.) -

Edited 10 years agoAs heard in the London 2012 Olympic Games end ceremonies. Despite being titled '2012 Remix', the track is not really remix. The backing track is a new mix of the original recording and stays true to the original sound. There are no new instruments or rhythmic patterns introduced (typical to a 'remix') - so perhaps this should have been titled 'New Vocal' like the 1986 version of "Wuthering Heights".
