Sonically this Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab is, in my opinion, still the best sounding version you can get.

Does this compilation sound a bit muddy in places, as some listeners of other editions have noted? Of course. And it should btw., because the entire festival was indeed a muddy affair! In the truest sense of the word 😂.

If you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend streaming the 2019 documentary "Woodstock: Three Days That Shaped a Generation." It will give you an idea of ​​why there was no way to properly record the various concert performances. Everything, absolutely everything, was improvised. So I'm glad that we, and future generations, even got a halfway decent recording of this historic event.

All the more so considering how brilliantly Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab managed, many years later in 1985, to distill an authentic, enjoyable listening experience from what was really a rather poor original recording to beginn with. Kudos!

The highlight of this box set is definitely Michael Shrieve. This track sounds really good here and is actually the main reason why I still pull this vinyl set out of my collection from time to time. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED 😊👍👍.

As usual the monarch pressing is the standard compared to the other pressings.. just sayin

sadly i have to agree with the negative reviews... its clearly bad... you dont need to be an audiophile to know this... its very muffled overall... to the point where i was starting to get a headache... fr... a side by side comparison with a nm first press doesnt... not even close bud... ie when the announcer says "mr joe cocker" it sounds like mibber zho ocher 😁

This issue also exists as a box set celebrating the 25th anniversary of the event. The box set was issued by the german record shop chain WOM (World Of Music) and includes – apart from the 2x2 CD sets – a digitally remastered VHS videotape (215 minutes), a rather beautiful Woodstock t-shirt and a german telephone card with the couple on the cover picture on it.

Another record company fake-out. It was marketed as a reissue of the 1970 DJ Monaural, which is a cleverly EQ'ed stereo fold down of the soundtrack. But, after RSD 2019 and the reviews came in, then it was changed to "the mono PA version, like you were there!" to excuse it being essentially a POS. Probably cost a lot less to use that as the source than to try to recreate the 1970 DJ Monaural cut.

This stereo pressing sounds superb. There is no noticeable surface noise, and the mix is loud, clear, and rockin'... plus many of the 'announcements' and crowd responses are grin-inducing. My dad had this album when I was a little kid, and I'm overdosing on nostalgia as I'm listening to it. Sounds 100X better than my old CD version. Buy this if you can find it.
