Oasis (2) – Wonderwall

Oasis + NWA + The Muppets = brilliance? I forgot I had this and was doing some reorganizing and came across it, purchased in 1996 for $9. It's pressed totally off-center, but doesn't hugely effect the playback. Side B is basically the same, just no Muppets intro and the guitar outro seems shorter. Great boot to put on and confound your friends.

Fantastic CD single I bought on release. 4 amazing tunes for the princely sum of £1.99. Wonderwall was the anthem of the mid nineties and still a cracking tune today..

Not a huge fan of Oasis in general, but I love this cheeky wee bootleg. Virtually the same track on both sides, however the side with the Muppets (the two cantankerous old guys), at the start definitely has more psychedelic guitar effects.

Bought this brand new and after on the ultrasonic machine still ha some cracks and pops not satisfied I wash again and still has background sound.

"Wonderwall" on this CD uses a different mix than the Morning Glory album. According to Owen Morris, this was a later mix done at Orinoco, which he and Noel decided not to use when compiling the album. This same alternate mix appeared on Stop The Clocks and Time Flies, although it has more dynamic range (about 2.5 dB) on this CD. However, the stereo channels are mistakenly reversed here.

"Round Are Way" is the same mix found on the Creation "Wonderwall" single. Here, it has about 3 dB more dynamic range, although there is much less treble than on the Creation single. It also fades out to digital silence at the end instead of cross-fading into the next song, as it does on the Creation single.

"Talk Tonight" is ever-so-slightly more dynamic than the Creation "Some Might Say" single (but the difference is marginal at best). It is missing Noel's "take me watch off" at the beginning, instead starting with the first guitar strum; however, the ending of the song is different, with the final chord sustaining for longer than the familiar version and Noel saying "You got any batteries?" in place of the thumping sound present on the Creation single, 2014 remaster, and The Masterplan.

"Rockin' Chair" is a bit more compressed and less dynamic than the Creation "Roll With It" single. However, instead of fading in at the beginning, it starts at full blast; therefore, the song is a little bit longer.

"I Am The Walrus" is the same performance and mix from the Creation "Cigarettes & Alcohol" single, although the treble is again reduced and the channels are mistakenly reversed. There is about 2 dB greater dynamic range here than there is on the Creation single and the Japanese Epic/Sony single, which has a slight reduction of the bass frequencies compared to the Creation single.

Perfect EP, no getting around it.
The universally amazing Wonderwall followed by arguably one of the most underrated B sides Oasis ever recorded THEN followed by the mighty swamp song, that continues to hold up as a fantastic improv piece, followed by the legendary Masterplan that never fails to amaze. If you want to here why Oasis are a mega band, this is the EP to start your journey

Sound terrible Round are way. Maybe for that it was not include on LP

Are these remixes or edits of Wonderwall? Does anyone know the providence of this release?

Let's not be stupid here. This is a fantastic song. Regardless of what genre, decade, period, scene or culture it stood for, it's just a near perfect song. How do I know this? Everyone knows this song. Everyone.

The joke is that when someone is taking requests for songs everyone shouts "PLAY WONDERWALL!" or that a new amateur busker will confidently walk up to the mic and say "Here's Wonderwall". It's a great joke, but it only works because people are so familiar with the song. It's universal appeal and its simplicity only add towards how valuable this song is to modern music history.

A fine point in British Rock music for sure.
