Looking at pressing numbers of other Sub Pop singles at the time and the fact that the Smashing Pumpkins weren't popluar yet (and the first album coming out half a year later) and that their first single (so the one directly before this one) only had 1500 units pressed a number of 5500 (2500 pink and 3000 black) seems absolutely reasonable. Even that was probably hard to sell for Sub Pop.

Essential for SP fans as Honeyspider is still exclusive to this release, at least on vinyl (it was released on the 2011 cd/dvd box set of Gish, but with a new mix), plus, as mentioned in the notes, Tristessa is another version than the one found on Gish (also released, with a new mix, on the 2011 Gish 2xCD).
