Notes
The "first" US pressing of the debut by Jefferson Airplane has three versions, released in both mono and stereo:
1) The earliest disc has six tracks on side 1, with the sixth being "Runnin' 'Round This World". This version contains the original recordings of both "Let Me In" (with the lyric "Don't tell me you want money") and "Run Around" (with the lyric "That sway as you lay under me").
2) The second version has five tracks on side 1, with "Runnin' 'Round This World" being deleted. However, the original versions of "Let Me In" and "Run Around" are still included.
3) The final version has five tracks on side 1, but two tracks have been rerecorded with censored lyrics: "Let Me In" ("Don't tell me it's so funny") and "Run Around" ("That sway as you stay here by me").
There additionally exists three cover variations:
1) The "first-state" cover has a rear cover slick which includes "Runnin' 'Round This World" on the track listing for side 1. There is no "RE" in the upper right corner by the mono/stereo catalog numbers.
2) The "second-state" cover are first-state covers which have had a replacement slick pasted on top of the original rear cover slick. These replacement slicks do not show "Runnin' 'Round This World" on the track listing for side 1, and "RE" has been added next to the mono/stereo catalog numbers in the upper right corner. However, it is possible to peel back these slicks from the cardboard stock to reveal the original text underneath using a backlight.
3) The "third-state" cover only has the replacement slick on the rear side, which do not show "Runnin' 'Round This World" on the track listing for side 1, and "RE" has been added next to the mono/stereo catalog numbers in the upper right corner.
These covers can additionally be different for each printing facility, with different variations having a small "4", "6", or "7" placed in different locations near the bottom of the rear cover slick.

In dramatic contrast with the nicely made but terribly thin sleeves, those heavy german black silver label vinyls of the 66/67 run were about the best sounding pressings ever produced in vinyl history!

I have this version - version 2 uncensored, Rockaway pressing - except "Tobacco Road" is credited to Warnick Clay, not Clay Warnick. -
If you're looking for a budget way to own the uncensored version of the album this is it. Sounds great but unfortunately suffers from the dreaded 70s album art remake.

Can anyone help? i have a copy that has on the runout groove SIDE A - TPRS-0173-15S / SIDE B - TPRS-0174-15S (15S is slightly scratched out on side b) anyone know what copy i have? it seems to have the uncensored lyrics, i can't tie it down to any of the above copies

Absolutely great album and totally recommend picking up if you see it along your journeys!
I am totally satisfied with the copy I have -

My Indianapolis stereo copy has about the runoutsof the above, but a 25mm groove like the Indianapolis mono version!
Does anybody have any further information on that! Looks like it's not on discogs yet! -
Edited one year agoWhy is the top selling price for this 1st issue stereo only $65 whereas a 1st issue mono top price is well over $1000? What am I missing here?
