Notes
New Order's fifth studio album, released on 30 January 1989 and their last album released on Factory.
Recorded on Ibiza and in Peter Gabriel's Real World Studios.
The album adds Balearic Beat and Acid House influences to the band's typical blend of electronic and rock. The cover is another Trevor Key cooperation, using a garden ornament cherub statue. Saville thought the bacchanalian image was ironically fitting for the new "drug-fuelled hedonism" in the music scene.
The first New Order album to reach number one in the UK charts. Several tracks were individually released as singles. An instrumental version of "Vanishing Point" was used on the BBC series Making Out.
In the UK, there were several marketing items along with the album release, including an A5 sticker in the NME ("Press Technique"), billboards ("Advertising Technique"), a TV commercial, a set of four A4 paper sheets in green, white, red, and yellow ("Campaign Technique"), and a set of two posters, advertising the different media formats.
Released in the US in January 1989.
In 2008 the album was re-released as 2xCD Collector's Edition set, with the bonus disc containing non-album singles, 12" mixes and b-sides.

These Discovery CD pressings suck. I've gone through four CD's over ten years and they all eventually start to skip like crazy. Discovery's CD's are the worst. I have one other title manufactured by them, Rhino's CD of Phil Spector's Christmas album, and it stopped being playable around the 2000's.

Lovely sounding press...clear and brilliant for a digital album...and with songs like fine time, loveless and vanishing point go and get one -

If you enjoy the synth/electronica of New Order more than their Post-Punk era, this is the album you need.
Yeah, of course it sounds like 80s electronica, primarily because...it is.
Sounds absolutely outstanding, even today. One of the best all-around synth-pop New Wave albums from the 80s you can buy.
Loads of delightful electronic flourishes, lush synth backdrops, emotional vocal delivery. All while still retaining those signature New Order guitar riffs. What's not to love? -
Is this actually remastered? © & ℗ are both listed as 1989 which implies that the recording is the original master.

I always thought this pressing sounded like crap, no matter the equipment. Very muddled dynamics, after listening to side A I usually get a headache. Or maybe it's just music itself. Or both.
Anyway, a mediocre pressing for a able album. -

I like this album, especially Run, Mr. Disco, Vanishing Point and Dream Attack. Some songs sound a little bit dated such as Fine Time and Round&Round but despite this, it's a good album and worth a listen -

I've always loved New Order but this is probably my favourite , along with Substance (but that doesnt count as an album, a collection of singles)
This pressing does it justice , just crank it and get throwing shapes -
Mine has a skip on Vanishing Point that I presume was a manufacturing mistake. Other than that, this copy sounds amazing.
-
Lovely pressing of one of my favourite New Order albums. No noise, clicks or pops, healthy solid bass, great dynamics. An unpretentious-looking re-release that delivers A LOT.

This original pressing sounds fantastic. No clicks or pops. It was recorded/published with high volume which helps to match the power of tracks. Amazing album!
