The Loin Sleeps Tonight is one my favorite old school tracks courtesy of a one time dream team collaboration between Simon Posford and Dick Trevor from Green Nuns Of The Revolution. It has it all: from a deep rolling bass line, which begs you too jump all over the dance floor, typical Hallucinogen psychedelic sound distortions and funny samples at the beginning, and one final, acid driven climax which would put many more 303 orientated producers to sleep. My only complaint would actually be regarding the acid. The whole entire climax sounds like a rip off of Sulfurex timeless acid track Point Break. And if it wasn't intentional, then Infernal Machine got very influenced by it, or better yet, borrowed a few ideas. Now, no matter how awesome do they incorporate it into the track (and they pull it off with the upmost might, like only producers of their quality can), nowhere on this release is it mentioned where and from who did they learn a few tricks. A thank you for the inspiration would have been nice. That aside, this is a psychedelic monster that will torch any party just when it seems it was getting stale.
The Loin King is just as energetic, with countless bits and pieces of psychedelia tearing the track to shreds, as this spiralling melody just keeps coming at you. Things tone down, relatively that is, but then at 04:15 the heavens open their gates and this amazing lead drops, followed by another cascading melody at around the five minute mark. These melodies lead the music to its ending as they both slowly fade out. Man With No Name made a remix of this track, which is almost just as amazing, although he replaced some of the madness and ferocity of the original in favor of his trademark floating melodic sound. The original wins out, in my opinion, although it is a close one.
This is a seriously intense experience. In my ears, both of these tracks rank amongst the finest these producers have done, and the true pity here is that this was a one off t collaboration, because the combination of Dick's impressive acid sorcery with Simon's incredible knob tweaking and attention to detail all painted over with sophisticated and mind puzzling melody work is breath taking. A real win win situation.
