Second Layer – World Of Rubber

Of note for fans of this album Borland also did a 4 song ep with jello Biafra of the Dead Kennedys in 81 or 82 under the name The Witch Trials which is available on vinyl and cd from alternative tentacles ..it is very similiar in sound and style but it’s more of Biafra spoken word over a second layer type musical setting so Borland doesn’t sing but it’s still a great album …

So far I only knew the Dark Entries reissue which sounds good, but I must it that the original pressing is a must have, highly dynamic, loud pressing, very well balanced but more aggressive and one noticeable difference : it sounds more glued than the remaster of Dark entries... Definitively worth the money for the lovers of this incredible record.

My copy has no surface noise at all.

An almost aggressively uncommercial and bleak album. In a good way.

Does anyone has the folded insert to ? My copy does not have.

My copy plays with light surface noise. Not too distracting, but not dead quiet. It's probably the colored vinyl, not a fan.

I stumbled across this LP. I own a few Sound albums and always thought they were one of the best post punk bands, who sadly didn't get the acknowledgement they deserved. They were on Korova like the Bunnymen and I actually think their first couple of albums are better than what the Bunnymen were doing. Yes, the Bunnymen had some strong singles but I think the Sounds albums were better as collective works. Adrian Borland was one of the most talented artists from that era. It's a real shame he took his own life. I've read that his depression was partly because The Sound never made the breakthrough. They certainly went under the radar and didn't get the recognition they deserved. This LP is more like the material Borland did with Jello Biafra and is another great release from Dark Entries.

Great pressing, quiet playback and a pleasure to listen to. 2 lp's come in polysleeves with a separate paper insert. Very happy with the reissue of this "under the radar" release.

This album is so awesome. I cannot believe it is not a classic record along with Joy Division, Gang Of Four, Wire, etc... It's been hidden away for so long and now it's out to finally get the respect that it needs.
