Daevid Allen – Banana Moon

I can’t find even a casual mention of this on the net, but this HAS to be Kevin Ayers singing on “Codein Coda”… anyone else hear that?

This is an absolutely stunning release. Disc flat and noise free.

Always personally really liked this LP, but the music is a matter of opinion so we will leave it there!
LP has no physical warping or scuff marks Etc. Plays silent between tracks and I was surprised how good this actually sounds on my mid priced Marantz/ audio technica system, (ittedly was not expecting much but my original French 1971 version is played to death and the original 1990 UK CD release sounds "digitally" awful).
Good wide soundscape, balanced well, bass/ trebles spot on.
Cover is good quality, poly lined inner bag and has an insert with info on the album.
Recommended.

Can you say Japanese Knock Off? My copy has mastering errors.

I own the first few Gong albums and hadn't bothered with this until I read it was one of Bowie's favourite albums of all time. That piqued my curiosity. It's similar to Gong. It has Psych rock as well as free jazz elements on side 2. Bowie stated that he felt this album was the embryo of Glam music. I didn't hear that as much but it is a really strong album and one that I'm pleased to have discovered.

The Daevid Allen - Banana Moon in GREEN SINGLE cover is no that a PROMO issue!!!!! On the spin off is it stamped "a arlacem" som betyr PROMO, but as with very many Latin word you must share it in two. I live in Spain and have two French neighbours as solved this mystery in two minutes. So forget REISSUE and take care about your PROMO copy! All BYG records SHALL have a weight at 180 gram, if less it's a later pressing. Originales on BYG have very good sound.

Banana Moon cannot be praised enough for its originality and musicianship. Wyatt's drumming is so good it just leaves me stupefied. I have many, many pressings of this album, and the best one is the 1975 Caroline UK reissue w/alt. cover, second is the French press, w/green-alt. cover.

Wonderful (in one's mid-fifties) to discover this recording with Robert Wyatt on drums and—in many instances—vocals.

Previously knew of Daevid only via the New York Gong recording: primarily due to its connection with early Material. Oh and his semi-prominent place in the Wyatt's biography Different Every Time: a book which—as is perhaps self-evident—I haven't gotten around to finishing yet.

Not that I hadn't at least heard *of* Camembert Electrique. Seems I have some remedial listening to do.

Like Delvap below I was 18 when I bought this as an import, probably from Virgin when they were just a mail order business. Nearly 50 years later it is still a favourite. I like the early Gong records but I love this one.

The story behind the record is Gong had booked time at the Marquee studios but Daevid and Christian were the only ones to get into the country. (Which is ironic considering why Daevid left Soft Machine).Daevid ed Robert Wyatt who called around and assembled the band. That's Gary Wright's head which has been added to the picture of Daevid, Robert and Archie.

After a gig once I asked Kevin Ayers where the whole banana thing came from and he said "Canterbury being a commuter area we called it cornflake country and, well, you know how bananas go with cornflakes..."
