Black Flag – Six Pack

My version does not have a barcode anywhere on the sleeve or cd.

Each black flag singer had a different distinctive voice. Dez sounds like he swallowed glass and sand, fuckin love it

A great record, Dez on vocals contributes to a more muscular sound. Six Pack builds up to a monster and I've heard it before goes off like a bomb. Go massive or go home.

I listen to this 10 times a day no shit. "6 Pack" is god... bass solo developing into guitar-scraping noise with a sudden jolt into the fastest, rawest blur of sound these boys have done. Also "American Waste" and" I've Heard It Before". These guys are definetly the best musicians, ten times better than these Jazz and Heavymetal and New Wave jokers. If you don't like this you're beyond hope. "

" Some finicky fans have said this isn't as good as earlier Black Flag recordings like "Nervous Breakdown" or "White Minority". If you want to get picky about it you can, but any way you look at it, this is sill incredible stuff - an intense outburst of rage and fury etched onto a piece of vinyl.
This single was recorded while Dez was singer, and It's great, but now that they've got a new lineup with Henry doing vocals and Dez on second guitar, they're much better. Black Flag has always been incredible, but now they're absolutely awesome - a powerful thundering sound like nothing you've heard before. It's no wonder so many people consider Black Flag to be the best hardcore band in the world. "

I bought this 7" when it first came out in 1981 - and maybe I'm in the minority, but I've always preferred Dez's vocals to Henry's - in fact, I think that Dez was the BEST Black Flag vocalist ever - I wish that they would have kept this same line-up for their "Damaged" debut LP. Oh well, the rest is history...

My copy looks exactly like the first press, cover exactly the same, no bar code and record looks the same. However, the Matrix / Runout on side A says SST-005-A No! No! An Omlette! L-20146 and side B says SST-005-B And A Baked Potato L-20146-X This is similar to the etchings on the 90s reissue, but also different. Any one know about this release? It seems like a fist press with different etchings.

If Nervous...was the Kieth EP, and Jealous... was the Reyes EP, then Six Pack is the equally important Dez EP. Dez is often overlooked because his vocal style was so similar to Rollins, and the main track ended up being re-done on Damaged. "I've heard it before" and "American Waste" are equally as important as any other early Black Flag song, making this just as good a starting point to get into BF as any other early record, and an equally important one for fans to get who dug all the other early tracks. Dez ended up becoming the rhythm guitarist once Rollins ed the band.
