Love the music! Bought this album from the hype and I’ve been hooked.
My copy doesn’t have skips but it has SO much surface noise. Lots of pops and crack sounds which disturb a lot of the softer moments on the album like A House In Nebraska. I even played it on another friends TT, cleaned over and over.
Even after the cleaning though the surface noise is there. I’m a huge audiophile (I look for clean sound with my records) so even the soft surface noise on Gibson Girl and Ptolemaea makes want to stream them.
If you’re someone who doesn’t mind surface noise this pressing isn’t bad. On the first listen I loved it, and the highlights are moments where the band kicks in on heavier songs like Family Tree, the surface noise wasn’t noticeable because it was new music.
The sound is dynamic, I just wish it was more atmospheric for a vinyl record. It’s a first pressing from an independent artist label so I’m hoping they’ll figure out how to reduce the surface noise and make it sound cleaner for future pressings.
The poster is really tiny and flimsy. There’s no lyric booklet which would be great for the songs. So there’s nothing special about this indie exclusive other than it having the sticker and poster. This was the only copy my record store had or else I would’ve just got a standard copy. As someone who likes collectible records though it’s a cool game edition.
I’d rate this pressing a 6.5/10. You can hear the audio it’s just surface noise that’s my biggest issue. This has the potential to sound amazing on vinyl, just not this pressing. I notice a lot of Ethel fans aren’t buying this for the sound though so if you’re not worried about subtle noise pops and hisses this could be a great pressing. -
This sounds VERY digital and it's pressed by GZ. Their pressings are not great in general. I would not waste any real money on this on vinyl. You are better off just purchasing the digital tracks.

There are pops and crackles on Disc 1, other than that - it plays finely.
So glad it finally is on wax. -
This pressing didn’t have the oomph that I hoped it would, but overall, I’m still satisfied. If there was any major surface noise or pressing defects, I didn’t hear any on my copy. Just glad to finally have an important record on vinyl!

Edited one month agoWell the first vinyl has alot of surface noise considering it has songs with very quiet moments. The second vinyl is warped slightly and it's just annoying that I've waited ages for this release on vinyl.

I do wish that there was a insert with the lyrics as they're a central part of the album but it's wonderful to finally have this album on vinyl
