I'm listening to London Calling from this set and really liking it; so far I prefer it to my UK first press LP! HDTracks has a 24/96 version of this set; anyone heard it?
-
I believe that the 1st 100 copies that were ordered though the Clash official website has a small cloth that has a printed Joe Strummer autograph and genuine autographs of Paul, Mick and Topper. The back ground was similar to the Black Market Clash cover.
-
I just bought this and asmuch as i love it, it came with the booklet in CD 6 separated from the actual CD Digi-Book casing, Has this happened to anyone else?, Would Columbia replace it?,

This is an awesome set...but I'm curious about 1 thing...I bought a good used copy from a local CD/vinyl store called Mr Cheapo's for like $90 about 2-3 years ago, dead excited, all pieces included, nothing missing. Was going over all the music & I found something pretty peculiar, was defintely an error...I wonder how many of these boomboxes were pressed & how many have this error?? Now, what's the error?? On the "Extras" discs, "Armagiddeon Time" is missing & in it's place was a 9 minute track combining both "Bank Robber" & "Rockers Galore On A UK Tour" on the same track, and it follows the 2 songs on separate tracks!! Strange yet interesting!! I wonder if my copy is the only copy out there with this error?? Btw, I have the song "Armagiddeon Time" on the "Clash On Broadway" 3CD box, so I kinda don't mind this error cuz it makes this set that much more rare & uncommon...anyone else have this error??

ATTENTION CLASH FANS. RUN don't walk. RUN and get the new Clash box! All the studio albums (other than "Cut the Crap" and the American version of the first LP) have been newly Remastered. And they are miles above the last edition. It's night and day. The sound is STELLAR. All the albums have LYRIC SHEETS!!!!! There's several CD's of out-takes and singles, a DVD, and some cool swag. Completely worth the substantial investment.

Edited 4 years agosome random musings.
re: extras CD
Ghetto Defendant is just described as "unedited" but it also features a different take of Strummers vocal track
The Beautiful People Are Ugly just sounds lame in this mix, the synth sounds are worse than anything on Cut The Crap
Kill Time sounds thin, the guitars are too low in the mix, it sounds like an unfinished jam. you can see why it was left off Combat Rock.
the Extended Sean Flynn is brilliant, my favourite track of the whole set
the unedited Straight to Hell is supposedly the same as the version on the clash on broadway box set but it sounds very different. whether it is a different mix or just a result of the heavy handed shrill mastering i'm not sure - more research needed
splitting Sandinista! into 3 discs instead of 2 and London Calling into 2 instead of 1 is annoying and takes up space that could have been better used.
If you already have a fairly complete Clash collection, i'm not sure it would be worth your while buying this
the mastering is mostly ok (not my personal taste but ok) for a modern release until we reach Combat Rock and its associated Outtakes & B-sides then it becomes very unpleasant and i had to stop listening
on the positive side
Koka Kola has a complete intro with no tape speed issues.
Bankrobber's drum intro isn't as clean as the intro of Rockers Galore , i wonder why they didn't simply paste the intro from Robber Dub or Rockers Galore to create a pristine copy of Bankrobber -
Because i absolutely fell in love with The Clash with the Bob Clearmountain 12" remix of Rock The Casbah and played it every weekend to a packed dancefloor, i felt it necessary to include all the pertaining info regarding the tracks on "Sound System Extras" and also simply because it is crucial to this particular cd inclusion in the box set! Love it to death!!
so sue me if i'm wrong.
