Deep Purple – Machine Head

This is a fantastic pressing as others have noted but my copy is missing nearly two seconds of the intro of Highway Star. Compare this pressing to any other and you will notice it begins on the wrong chord and is definitely shorter. Has anybody else noticed this or am I losing my mind?

Surprised by the quality of this pressing considering the price (I got mine for $18 on amazon). The gatefold is rock solid, like the record. Nothing flimsy here. No issues, tics or anything whatsoever on this. Clean sound and very boomy.

The only problem I have with this pressing is I have a hard time hearing the keys/organ? Could just be my copy or setup but I am interested to hear from others.

Love the remix, more jump and clarity to my ears. Would be a perfect 5 stars if not for the poor pressing with some grating artifacts in ‘Maybe I’m a Leo’. Still worth it though. Adding ‘When a Blind Man Cries’ to side two is the best bonus! If only Fleetwood Mac had added ‘Silver Springs’ to ‘Rumours’.

A few small ticks and pops, but nothing obtrusive. Soundstage is nice and wide, with great dynamics. I used to have an original (probably late 70's reissue) that I played to death in my youth. Somewhere along it's journey, I loaned it to a friend and never had it returned. I never replaced the vinyl as I at one point purchased the CD, then the Roger Glover remix double CD, which were my primary listeners.

Spinning this now, it takes me back to my youth. Actually, this one probably sounds better from a quiet vinyl standpoint. As others have noted, this could probably use a touch of treble if you have a warm system. The noise floor is pretty deep, so it can take some volume (as any DP should!). The low end and the drums/cymbals sound perfect in the mix. And that damn organ solo on the intro to Lazy sounds so thick, you just have to turn it up!

Now off to the Ultrasonic to see if I can't rid myself of those few minor ticks.

It's a Swedish LP. they copied the artwork from UK and used UK-made sleeves and inserts. The main difference is "NCB" on label

Side one is muffled and doesn’t sound good. Like throwing a blanket over your speakers. Side two sounds much better. It has some punch. Look for a better pressing. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
