This was my introduction to Godflesh. I spotted this blue cassette in a box of freebies as I was exiting Hyde & Zeke Records in Gainesville, FL. I can even still see my hand reaching down to grab the cassette.....
A day or two later I had a 5 hour drive home for Thanksgiving break. Must have listened to the tape a dozen times on the trip. By the time I got back to school a few days later, Godflesh had safely entered my roster of favorite bands and remain so today.
I would purchase the CD as soon as it came out and now I can't imagine Pure without Pure II to close it. Still my favorite Godflesh album. -

does anyone have any input as to how this reissue fairs. i've always thought that early pressing of earache records were subpar but don't know if they have gotten any better. there is no info on pressing, or if it has been remastered? etc. was Justin involved? thank you -

This album badly needs remastering. One of the best Godflesh albums, but it sounds so weak and thin compared to others. See track Mothra on "In All Languages" - it's sorta remastered there, but with way too much bass, practically unlistenable. Justin, please do this album justice! -
Edited 2 years agoVinyl releases don’t get much better than this! Perfect pressing, beautiful presentation, colors. The poster is also gigantic. I felt a little soul death for what I paid for this but that feeling was dashed once I received it and saw what a work of art this release is. This is the single best way to experience Pure. I hope they one day do a deluxe double vinyl release for Cold World/Slavestate in the same manner they did Pure here.

Great cassette. Although I always thought the drum machine was louder than everything else on the tracks. Oh well, that's Godflesh I suppose... -

This is my top 20 favourite albums of all time. I have it on both LP and cd. It is often overlooked by the metal community for being too indutrial and overlooked by the industrial heads for being too metal. However, I think it is a brilliant release by Broadrick, who has had a lucrative career from Napalm Death's First album to Techno Animal to Jesu. Its ethreal quality, sequenced beats, almost intelligable vocal style and sonic experience is to Indutrial/Metal music what My Bloody Valentine's "Loveless" is to Alternative Rock. 100%. -

Long before Korn and Linkin Park, there was Godflesh. Godflesh were pioneers of their time, not afraid to buck the at-that-time tradition of being a "Death Metal" band with a drummer. They used a drum machine, and overtly promoted this fact. tracks like "Spite" and "Pure" were the forerunners for today's rash of "nu metal" crossover style, with crunching heavy guitars over hip-hop inspired beats. This is a must hear for anyone wishing to know where the innovation for modern crossover rock/rap began.
