The Meters – Struttin'

The music is great. But I had to rate this release lower than I would rate the music. My pressing is significantly flawed. Perhaps they all are.

My pressing is blatantly not centered. The grooves are incredibly shallow. The first track on the B side skips without anything to initially recognize as a cause. After pondering all the factors possibly contributing, I discovered that the first track on the B side is pressed incorrectly. The grooves are not spaced congruently. A fair amount of the grooves, throughout the track I’ve mentioned, are overlapping and not concentric. This makes it impossible to prevent the relentless skipping… sans scratches, debris, etc.

It’s a first for me. It felt as if I were looking at one of my Jamaican 45s when I first noticed my stylus swaying from side to side.

Sounds Muffled. Low treble. Not good. Otherwise fairly solid in sound.

Sounds glorious! Bright and punchy, with lots of separation and room for the instruments to breathe. No problems QC-wise, though I did clean before playing.

The Meters records all sound great. You cant screw them up surely?
Look forward to comparing to.the MOV press. My guess is this will sound 10% better but be noisier of press.

Have anyone compared the new meter realeses to the MOV?

Compared to the original Josie pressings, these Meters reissues hold their own. They play with strong clear sound, nice separation, and the soundstage feels similar too. The mids sound like a near direct match with originals. Where I heard a huge difference is in the low end. The bass on the originals is much deeper and fuller and better. The highs on the originals are also noticeably higher and brighter.

It sounds good but the bass is a bit heavy-handed on it.

Clean pressing and simply killer dynamic sound. These are seriously a crazy good buy for the money

My copy has a few pops and crackles, even after an ultrasonic cleaning. But damn, this thing sounds good. The funk just leaps out and grabs you. Grab this while you can.
