em:t

Profile:

"emit is a division of time recording ltd."

Ambient label from Nottingham UK, originally active between 1994-1998. Founded by The Designers Republic. The label emblem on most releases appears to be a stylized form of the kanji 輝 (ki) meaning "radiance" or "sparkle".

Many releases declared their use of the Roland Sound Space (R.S.S) 3D sound imaging system as part of the recording process at Square Centre Studios.

In 2003 the label was relaunched and rebranded as "em:t records".

Catalogue numbers:
The last two digits indicate the year of release, e.g. "94" represents 1994. The first two digits indicate the order of release within that year, e.g. sequence starting at "00", followed by "11", etc.

I'd bet these would look really sweet on vinyl. I can't find their bandcamp page anymore unfortunately.

"Cult" ambient label from the UK ultimately best known for ripping off (not paying) its artists.

A label with consistently high-quality releases full of creative, nature-themed ambient/downtempo/world music that's strangely both nostalgic and futuristic at the same time. Having only somewhat recently discovered em:t, I now feel I'd been missing out. And yet, the highlights of the catalogue being t:meless, they still warrant listens some 15 years later. The obscurity of the CDs can be frustrating for some, but I feel the search is part of the experience. And I'll hunt down all of them one day.
