Austrian Record company manufacturing and distributing Amadeo, Philips and Deutsche Grammophon/Polydor records for the Austrian market.
Operating under this name until 30 June 1970, when all distribution was transferred to Phonogram Ges.m.b.H., Wien.
All istrative, manufacturing and logistic activities were then transferred to Phonodisc GesmbH.

Founded in 1916 as Polyphon Sprechmaschinen und Schallplatten GmbH, the Austrian subsidiary of German Polyphonwerke A.-G.. The pressing plant, originally built 1941, was destroyed during World War II, rebuilt and went back into production in 1947.

24 (stamped): generally used on external lacquers/mothers, i.e. on cuts by Phonodisc B.V.) of all labels from the Philips and DGG label families (e.g. Polydor, Bell, Buddah, Vertigo, DGG, Philips, etc.). A stamped 2 is often accompanying, either replacing the '1' at the beginning of the string (DGG/Polydor cuts) or in solitary position (Phonogram cuts).

Made in Austria (stamped): generally used on external lacquers/mothers, found frequently on cuts by e.g. Phonodisc B.V. or the DGG pressing plant (Polydor/Philips and related labels), often as sole indicator for the Austrian edition. Entry: Pressed By

A small letter, in most of the cases an A or B, can regularly be found stamped turned 90deg in the runout area. 'A' can also appear on side B and vice versa.

Please note that all releases showing "Austro Mechana" were pressed in 1971 or later by succeeding companies PRS Ges.mbh.
Only in rare cases like Wo Die Wälder Heimlich Rauschen leftover label blanks stating Polyphon Schallplatten Ges.mbH were used after the establishment of Phonodisc GesmbH or Austro Mechana respectively.
