Studios Barclay-Hoche Enregistrements

Profile:

Recording and mastering studio in Paris () founded in 1956 by Gerhard Lehner who became its chief engineer. The new complex was to be housed in a building on the Avenue Hoche that had earlier also housed a recording studio, but had been closed for several years.

The complex was initially comprised three, later four studios, the first two for recording, the latter two for mixing and editing. There was also a projection room for film music and a cutting service for acetates, using the Neumann lathe. Additionally, there was a smaller studio a couple of kilometers further on the Avenue Charles de Gaulle. In 1970 the studio was still hailed as the "most modern in Europe", but two years later a renovation project had to be initiated to update the 4- and 16-track equipment to 24- and 32-track equipment.

The studio manager was Pierre Chaillé in 1970.

In December 1979, a year after PolyGram, it was announced the studios would be closed down. Supposedly the reason was a conflict with the landlord of the building, who also exploited a dance hall right under the studios, disturbing the activities. Because of this, the studios were already rarely used by this point.

Recording engineers who have worked here: Thierry Beaumarié, Emmanuel Larget.

Mastering engineers who have worked here: GP (2). These engineers often signed their work with their initials in the runout grooves (and some are up to this point only known through these initials). They can be credited with Lacquer Cut By and the appropriate ANV. The engineers also etched "BLY" for "Barclay" and the number of the master tape (which often matches the Barclay catalogue numbers).
