Independent musicians were reluctant to submit their demo to major labels at the time when non-mainstream music was thriving in Indonesia in mid 90s. Aquarius Musikindo then launched two new labels in 1997, Pops Musik and Independen Record, to overcome this and take profit from the emerging trends. This was only going for a brief time - soon enough, Pop music had taken back the airwaves.

Independen Record folded in 1999, while Pops Musik is still going today.
