The Quest

Profile:

The Quest was an American nightclub and live music venue in Minneapolis that operated between September 1995 and 2006. An immediate successor to Gilbert Davison, ex-president of Paisley Park Enterprises and Prince's former close friend and confidant. The Quest permanently closed in the fall of 2006 after a rooftop fire. Following a complete renovation and expansion, new owners re-launched it as the "Epic" nightclub (fall of 2007 — 2013). Several businesses occupy the location today, including Rumble Studios and Cowboy Jack's Bar.

In 1990, when Prince arranged the Glam Slam's construction in downtown Minneapolis, with Paisley Park paying close to $2 million, the venture was formally ed under Heaven & Earth, Inc. — a new corporation wholly owned by Gilbert Davison; Prince publicly insisted he "had no financial interest," as reported by the local press. In October 1994, when Prince and Davison had a massive fallout over financial matters, the initial arrangement backfired; on paper, it was Davison's club. Prince collected his belongings and memorabilia from Glam Slam and never set foot there again; Gilbert resigned from Paisley Park the same month and was shunned from the artist's camp. The following year, Davison re-opened his club as The Quest.

The venue was successful and acclaimed by the general public in the late 90s and early 2000s, despite its controversial status and resentment amidst Prince fans (he never spoke with Davison again, and even estranged and barred Blink-182. In subsequent years, the club became notorious for violence, with several incidents in 2004 and a shooting outside the club in December 2005. The Quest was temporarily closed that month and lost its liquor license after refusing to pay $10,000 to the city of Minneapolis for installing security cameras in the area. The club briefly reopened in February 2006 before shutting down permanently after a fire; Gilbert Davison dissolved Heaven & Earth, Inc. in January 2008.
