Edited 4 months agoEpic record label, pure liquid funk at its ultimate best. Buy on sight, no need to listen, just buy!
Not many labels would i collect every release and like them all. Defunked however were different. Every release was top quality, the pressing sounded great. Hell, even the press release sheets that came with the promo's had more effort put in than most others did.
Only problem, they went defunct :( -
Is this Label a mixed vote for you?
Not for me!!!!
The label, owned and run by Fellowship (Darren Hickey) started off as an interesting platform showcasing what was a glorious intake of Liquid DnB - which i think a lot of people seem to forget - this was an exciting label as there weren't many putting out this quality!
As for releases - sure there were a few amongst them which weren't the best, but I have to say its a brilliant label from the outset of keeping the music exactly what it aimed at doing - bringing you a consistent slab of liquid soulful dnb.
its hard to find a label that is consistent in the style of their releases, so hats off to Darren for keeping this locked to what is was intended.
Fellowship has been around a long time and has had some great releases spanning back to the early 90s and played a part in keeping the jungle / dnb scene in toe with releases on many labels that were considered to be at the forefront.
The label artwork is nice but what stood out was the jackets the vinyl came in - top notch and impressive as is the website (which is still active) - Darren didn't do it by half so i think credit is due to him.
This label also played showcase for one of the biggest artists around today - Calibre, who contributed several tunes and definitely worth buying.
I have the pleasure in owning the full discography and have recently just completed 4 mixes dedicated to the label which will be played on my weekly show on Bricklaneradio EDM UK during June 2014 - which I dedicate to Darren.
There were some real stonkers amongst the releases from this label and for anyone who likes the liquid sound - this label was ahead of its time and therefore think has gone a bit un-noticed by todays standards - i recommend you get the full catalog. Listening and mixing these tunes together over the last week or so has really uplifted me and this gave me the opportunity to revive some forgotten moments from a now DEFUNKED label.
Production wise - they were all high quality recordings too, so grab yourself these as most are quite cheap to get, but this is no reflection on the quality you will own!
