Hans Wurman – The Moog Strikes Bach... (To Say Nothing Of Chopin, Mozart, Rachmaninoff, Paganini And Prokofieff)

Rather overshadowed by Wendy Carlos who released her stuff at the same time, but this is just as good. Terrible cover and LP title which do not convey the quality of these Moog meets Classical tracks. Includes a piece by the guy himself which is certainly different. Worth a spin in my view especially as it is as cheap as chips. Hans Wurman escaped and the Nazis and ended up in the USA.

This album - like many similar ones - was very likely stimulated by the success of W. Carlos' "Switched on Bach". Contrarily to the latter, it also uses music of other classical composers and is more daring and diversified in general. Which means it is by far more satisfying to listen to than its popular predecessor! (Carlos' SoB, in my opinion, is executed with too much respect for earlier, analogue versions of the music of Bach and therefore sounds rather boring in my ears!)

Following up on the popularity of "Switched On Bach." I actually like this album a little better. The synthesizer sound is more distinct and clear while offering different composers.
