Chaba Zahouania (in Arabic: شابا الزهوانية), real name Halima Mazzi, born May 15, 1959 in Oran is an Algerian singer of Raï music. She began her career as a singer in a female ensemble of Medahates (Algerian female vocal ensembles which liven up family celebrations in Oranie). In 1981, she made her first recording. In 1986, she had her first Raï success with “Khali Ya Khali” (my uncle, oh my uncle) which she sang in a duet with Cheb Hamid. She consolidated her notoriety the following year with the sulphurous hit, “El Barraka”, which she sang in a duet with Cheb Hasni. |
